OK- so I finally finished it. That tells you something, because I will sit down and devour a great book in one sitting- not matter what else is going on. I love to read- if I don't have at least one novel, one business or 'puter book and one other non-fiction 'on the go' I am majorly sick. There have been times when I've had more.

I can't say I disagree with the parallels to traditional LDS views, 'cause I don't really know them. It is quite possible- and it would be nice to have some explanation for at least some of the atrociousness that is this book. Obviously I didn't like it,  thumbsdown and for pretty much all the other reasons stated above; mediocre writing, lack of character/ plot/ fantasy world development, brainwashing  knife to lower youth's self-esteem, etc.

But I have to admit that I don't knowingly read other YA titles- so for all I know this is typical of the genre... although I truly hope that is not the case or we are in major trouble. I read it more because of the CP potential- but I've decided that jason can do all that, since he likes the book. Not sure if he would've if he hadn't seen the movie first; he liked that so much.

Yes i know it was poorly written, and yes Bella is one dimensional and easily dominated, but yes, I have read all three books. What can I say? I knew it was trash, but like eating cheesey poofs I couldn't stop even as I was feeling sick! smash
Bella has to be the second most annoying character I've ever read, second only to Emma, whom I wanted to throttle throughout the entire book.
The best thing i can say about twilight is how much fun it has been to read everyones posts! You guys are priceless!

Hey BarbD,
I just want to give you a big  thumbsup for discussing the book in depth with your kids. grin3  Good point that unrealistic expectations are everywhere!  And... I'm glad your eyeballs didn't explode shocked3 - I agree, those kinds of scenes would have been worse!

kiwi
sweetheart Thanks. I try to read (or at least browse through) all the books my girls read. Luckily they have good taste usually and tend to like the same genre as I do. Now I just have to convince them that some of my mind candy (like Nora Roberts and her JD Robb books) are just not suitable for 14 year old eyes. They love to read. Never in my life did I think the words: "Put the book down for five minutes" would come out of my mouth. Yet, I say that weekly if not more often.  grin3

Blue,  laugh  laugh laugh

Barb - I loved that video as soon as I saw the title!  laugh  I loved the Buffy series, but HATED the Twilight series.

I showed it to my 16 yr. old Angelica, and she said, "Wow!  They just replaced Buffy in Bella's roll and it really shows how creepy Edward is!"

That's the difference between a writer who respects women and their strengths, and one who doesn't. And it sure did outline the weaknesses of that dumbarse book, didn't it?  grin3
