heh. Well, I've run into a wall with a short bit (only half a page0 that I'm re-writing and re-writing. I'll post it when I get it coherent and perhaps my bad witing skillz will cause you to write.

I call this the "Dear God, I can do better than this crap!" reaction. laugh

It's been 4 months and 4 days since I sent a submission to Harlequin Undone , and their first contact letter by email said 3 to 4 months.  thumbsdown I am so bad at waiting.  wall i did have an email server change in the meantime (same email address, only now it's gmail), and I noticed some of my stuff doesn't show up. Should I contact with a different address: Or does that make me look desperate? It does say not to send follow up queries in the email.

I was just wondering this morning if you'd heard anything. Is your old email address still active? If not, I would shoot them an email just saying "I've changed my email address, please update your records". That way it's not an inquiry exactly. Just an update.

See, that's just wrong. If they don't want a person's stuff, then have the good grace to fire off a one line "**** off" email.  Jeez.

My personal opinion is that it's so GOOD that all the editors are having a read so they can suggest re-writes!  thumbsup

Well, I heard back.  Sad 3 months response time, my ass. It's been 8 months.  no

Dear Ms. Mack

Thank you for sending in your story, DREAMING OF YOU to Harlequin Historical UNDONE!

Whilst we appreciate the care and attention that has gone into the preparation of your submission, regrettably we feel that your story and characters are not sufficiently developed for publication in Harlequin Historical UNDONE.

Here are our top tips to bear in mind for your next submission:

1.Ensure that your story and conflict are character-driven.
2.UNDONE stories require an innate sensuality. However, it should be stressed that we’re more interested in quality, not quantity! Despite the shorter length, the characters still need to be strongly motivated and the emotional tension as high as the sensual tension!
3.Sex should be represented in a sensual manner, rather than depending on crude or gratuitous descriptions.
4.Don’t try and squeeze an entire full-length Historical (including secondary characters, plots and period detail) into 10-15,000 words. Think about the format you’re writing for, and how to get the most satisfying emotional read out of a short story.

We are pleased to have had the opportunity to see your work, and thank you for thinking of Harlequin Historical UNDONE.

Yours sincerely,

Editorial Department

Sorry to hear that Barb. Do you think the response relates to your story or do you think it was somewhat of a standard response?

It was a standard rejection letter, with my name just plugged in. I thought it was good, but apparently it just wasn't what they were looking for.

Sad  Sad  Sad

And it took 8 bloody months for them to send a form letter?  That blows large.
